Road closure to fix 'Spondon spring' leak

The slip road from the A52 onto Lodge Lane North in Spondon is likely to be closed for several days from the evening of Monday 15th December as road works are carried out to fix the leaking water that has plagued the junction for a number of months.

Posting on their Facebook page, Spondon Councillors staetd:

Major roadworks will start on Monday evening 15th Dec meaning Lodge Lane North the Spondon exit and Asda slip road will probably remain closed for the whole week until Friday night or Saturday morning. Alternatively drivers will be able to use the Stoney Lane A52 Exit into Spondon or come off at the Asda roundabout and proceed via Nottingham Road & up Willowcroft Road.

The City Council will be carrying out emergency works to divert the water which is coming to the surface and causing a serious safety risk, on what is already a dangerous bend.

During the closure, the Highways Agency will be carrying out safety improvements at the junction to improve the signage, the road surface and road markings on the slip road and the approach to the bend on Lodge Lane.

Full diversions will be in place all week taking inbound Spondon traffic onto the Asda island, along Nottingham Road and up Willowcroft Road into the village.

Clearly this is not a good time of year and there will be significant, disruption and some delays but the work is essential with the onset of the freezing cold weather, to avoid potentially very serious accidents.

It would appear the problem could be a very old culvert which no one was aware of which has collapsed and water from the blockage is finding its way to the surface.

We understand the road will be closed around 7pm on the Monday but we will keep you informed of any changes to timings and will update you on the progress of the necessary works.
