Thousands enjoy Spondon Day in the sun

The sun shone down on Spondon at the weekend as an estimated 2,500 people descended on the village centre to enjoy the annual Spondon Day event.

This year's crafts-related theme saw dozens of stalls appearing around the village, showcasing arts and crafts from various local businesses and groups, including many of Spondon's own talent. Visitors not only got a chance to buy a range of unusual gifts but were also able to try their hand at various crafts too.

Meanwhile, the crowds were treated to entertainment throughout the village including juggling street entertainers on stilts, face painting, live music, belly dancing and a traditional Punch & Judy show amongst other things.

Other highlights included the fun fair which popped up on Sitwell Street and Chapel Street from the afternoon onwards, horse and carriage rides around the village, fantastic food and drink from our local shops and cafes and special offers and beers in the Spondon pubs and clubs too.

Mark Davis is the chairman of event organisers Spondon Traders Association. Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Mark described the day as "absolutely amazing". Mark said: "People were really happy and it was great seeing people going into the shops and meeting new people as well. It means our great community can keep getting stronger."
