Development well under way on Craddock Avenue

Work has commenced on building 55 new homes in Spondon to help reduce the City Council's housing waiting list.

The development is taking place on the site of the former flats on the junction of Craddock Avenue and Arnhem Terrace. The scheme has been funded through a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and will consist of houses and apartments in Spondon along with Alvaston and Chaddesden. Social landlord Riverside and principal contractor Thomas Vale Construction have joined forces to deliver the new homes.

Chris Flynn, Riverside Midlands Divisional Director said: "The scheme will deliver 170 homes for Derby City Council over three different areas in Derby, with a mixture of two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments which will available to rent.

“As well as the build programme we will be delivering community projects which will benefit the local people near to the new housing schemes.”

Plans for one such community project in Spondon include the idea of using some of the land close to the development area for new community allotments.

The homes in the first phase are expected to be completed in May 2013.
