Additional Neighbourhood Forum

Event date(s):
Wed, 10/05/2017 - 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Event will be held at:
Spondon Village Hall, Sitwell Street, Spondon DE21 7FG

As you are probably aware, Spondon (and many other branch) libraries are under threat of closure with the ongoing review being carried out by the City Council.

Spondon Village Partnership (SVP), is a consortium of the Spondon Neighbourhood Board, Traders’ Association and the Village Improvement Committee, and is deeply concerned about this proposal. We fear not only the direct impact of the closure on local residents but also the knock-on effect on the viability of the village centre. At the end of 2016, the SVP organised a survey, the results of which can be viewed here: www.spondononline.co.uk\libraryreport. It has been presented to the City Council, who have promised to discuss it at the April meeting of the Libraries Review Committee.

The SVP is organising an “emergency neighbourhood forum” which is being held in Spondon Village Hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday 10th May. It will give local residents and Library users an opportunity to express their views on the city Council proposals which may see the Library closed. David Potton, Head of Library Services at the City Council and the Councillor Lisa Eldret, Cabinet member responsible for Libraries were invited to attend, together with any other Councillors or Officers they thought appropriate, but they felt unable to participate. All three Spondon ward Councillors will be at the forum.

In order to publicise the forum in the local media, we are organising a photograph of “disgruntled Library users” at 11am on Tuesday 11th April outside the Library.

All members of the public are invited to the Forum on 10th May and we would like as many people as possible in the photograph!

The Executive Committee of Spondon Community Association are supportive of our actions and so have allowed us the use of the Village Hall without charge, for which we are very appreciative.
