Spondon Social Safari AND Scarecrow Trail - 8th/9th July 2017
Published: 22nd April 2017

The popular annual Spondon Social Safari return to the village once again this summer, this year taking place over the weekend of 8th and 9th July.

Now in its TENTH year, the Safari continues to be very popular and is this year looking to try and get even more participants than ever before. As well as the usual large variety of stalls, activities, open gardens, BBQs and more, this years' Safari will also have an additional element to it - the Spondon Scarecrow Display!

Here, organiser Mel Griffiths tells us more about this year's Safari:

This year marks the 10th year of the Safari. Year on Year the Safari grows and matures, with increasing funds raised for a wide variety of chosen charities as well as for the Village Improvement Committee.

Last year, the combined funds raised was just over, a staggering £5,000 of which we were able to donate just over £900 to support the Village Improvement Committee which enables them to continue making our village a beautiful place to be and to enjoy.

Over the years, the Spondon Social Safari has moved from being an event of visiting gardens, maturing into something that I feel encompasses the feel about Spondon (something very unique to other suburbs of Derby) in that it is about COMMUNITY and caring for others. The Social Safari is now about people organising a fund raising event in their own homes or gardens and sharing their talents.
