The Spondon Neighbourhood Board is made up of local residents, councillors and other representatives and works towards improving life for all who live in Spondon.
The Board helps to influence decisions which effect the area and encourages local people to get involved and have their own say on local issues. It also aims to strengthen relations between local residents and key local figures such as councillors, police and fire services, council departments and other local service providers.
At the Spondon Neighbourhood Board meeting in March 2010, members agreed the following priority themes for 2010/11:
- Improve highways and transport - with a focus on reducing heavy goods vehicles, speeding, parking and safety around schools
- Improve Community Engagement and Empowerment in Spondon - with a focus on communications
- Support a healthier community - with a focus on inequalities and obesity
- Improve community safety - with a focus on antisocial behaviour, car crime and fear of crime
- Improve the Environment in Spondon - with a focus on climate change, dog mess and litter
Sub groups
In addition to the main Board, there are also a number of sub-groups made up of both Board members and additional local people. The sub-groups work to support and enhance the Board overall aims around key themes and issues. Current sub groups are:
1. Cleaner Greener Spondon
2. Communications
3. Safer Spondon
4. Highways
5. Spondon Traders Association
6. Spondon Youth Initiative
Forum meetings
Each quarter, the Board hosts the Spondon Neighhourhood Forum meetings, where any local residents can come along to meet and put questions to members of the Board and other representatives and find out the latest news on issues and activity in the area. Details of the Forum meetings appear in our Spondon events section.
You can download the Forum papers for June's meeting by clicking here. The document contains a variety of useful information including an agenda for June's meeting, more details about the Board and Forum plus a "You say, we did" update outlining some of the actions and initiatives put in place by the Board in recent months.
