Mark Davis, from Spondon Traders Association, explains more:
"I don't need to tell you how special our village is. We have some of the best shops and businesses around. Spondon Day is a chance to showcase some of these great businesses, and have a great time as well!

Do you enjoy craftwork? Woodwork? Card Making? Tapestry? Painting? Homebrew? There are many past-times and hobbies that are enjoyed, and this year we will be having so many craft stalls that will have something for everybody, and can't help but inspire.

Our specialist shops will be holding demonstrations and special events, keep looking for timings and details everywhere. It is already looking as though it could be possibly the best craft fair in Derbyshire. All this will be starting from 10.00am, throughout the Village and the Village Hall.

As always, there will be plenty of fun for kids and adults alike. The fair will here from 3.30pm, with plenty of fun and excitement. There will be lots of entertainment on the streets, and of course the local pubs and clubs are holding a beer festival, and we all know how good the cafés and food outlets are, so lots for everyone!

The Village Hall will be open from 10.30am until 4pm. There will be demonstrations by local craft groups who use the hall, the Methodist church will be doing children’s crafts, Spondon Archive books will be on sale, refreshments will be available – and toilets of course!

Along with the great day planned, you have the chance to win some great prizes in the Traders Raffle. Along with a brilliant cash prize, you can win some superb tokens, vouchers and prizes donated by the Traders Association members. Tickets can be bought from lots of shops throughout the Village, so look out for the posters, buy some tickets and hope to win!

Sitwell Street and Chapel Street will be closed to traffic, so it'll be easy to wander around, enjoying the great atmosphere, food and drink. As always, parking will be limited, so arriving either on foot or via bus services are recommended. The Spondon Flyer, Ilkeston Flyer and Y3 will be running, but with the usual diversions.

Come and explore, join in, enjoy, in fact celebrate your village and its shops and businesses. Spondon and its community are famous as being the friendliest village in Derby - let's prove it!
