Spondon history told in new mosaic artwork

A brand new mosaic artwork has been unveiled in Spondon telling the history of the village.

The artwork, designed and created by Peter Massey, shows the historical context of our community through the centuries, from medieval times to the modern day.

The display features prominently on the wall outside the village hall/library area on Sitwell Street and makes a fantastic addition to the village centre. It was launched at the VIC Spring Fair in May and was unveiled by outgoing Spondon Councillor, Evonne Williams.

The idea for the mosaic came from Ruth Hooper and Anita Hayes from the Spondon Archive book team and the project has then been a collaboration between various local groups, businesses and individuals as listed on the plaque next to the mosaic display.

Be sure to have a look at the artwork next time you're walking down Sitwell Street and be reminded of what a long history our local village has.
