Spondon Christmas Lights Switch-On 2013

Friday 22nd November 2013 from 5.15pm onwards

It’s that time of year when the Spondon Traders welcome everyone into our Village, and start celebrating Christmas, with the switching on of the Christmas lights. This year we are doing something a bit different, with events happening throughout the village centre, music and dance from local groups and troupes, lots of welcoming shops and much more.

There's lots to see and do throughout the evening both before and after the lights are switched on. The big switch-on itself will be at 6.30pm, preceeded by a fantastic professional fireworks display

From 5.15 pm we are delighted to welcome Santa into his Grotto, and this year he has chosen to entertain the kids at his holiday home in the Precinct. His wonderful Fairy Queen will be helping him, so a special time will be had by all, not to be missed Because Santa likes not to rush when seeing his treasured kids, he has asked us to organise timed tickets for everyone that wants to see him.

While visiting Santa, or after you’ve been lucky enough to see him, Woody’s Owls will also be in the same area, so another special visit for children of all ages.

As usual, all your favourite Spondon Traders Association shops and cafés will be open, so you can get those great Christmas gifts for your family and friends, whilst you’re strolling around the village. Just look for the Christmas trees and the STA sign, that’s where you’ll find that Special Spondon Trader welcome and service.

The Village Hall will be open from 5.30pm; drop in for refreshments, including mulled wine, a chance to stock up on seasonal gifts - or just a sit down! The full range of Spondon Archive books will be on sale, including the new history of the church, as well as the "Sounds of Spondon" CD.

The amazing band, Rock of Ages, will be outside the Library from 6.00pm something not to miss, and don’t forget there will be some great refreshments, teas and coffees and cakes in the Village Hall, where there will be many stalls to peruse and enjoy whilst having a cuppa!!

As events will be taking place in the Village Hall, throughout the Village and in Chapel Lane Precinct, there will be lots to entertain and amaze, as well as having a chance to get some of those presents that you just must have.

Follow the festive shop window trail!

Something new to look out for, the Traders are organising a shop window trail, with the winning prize of a Christmas Hamper. Every shop that participates will have something in their window that doesn’t belong. All you have to do is look in the shop windows, identify the item that shouldn’t be there, fill in the entry form and hand it in. The winner will be drawn from the correct entries received. Entry forms will be available from most STA shops, at only 50p per go. More details here.

Win £500 in cash!

By the way, have you got your raffle tickets yet? The winning prize is £500.00 IN CASH. There will also be some spot prizes, so even more reason to have a go. Lots of shops and businesses will be selling them, so keep your eyes open, and perhaps get them from more than one outlet; remember the spot prizes!! What could be better, winning such a great prize, and supporting your Spondon Village Christmas Lights as well. Thank you so much for your support, we couldn’t do this without you putting money in the collecting tins and buying raffle tickets.

Come to Spondon, the Friendliest Village in Derby, on Friday the 22nd November. It is going to be a very special evening, your evening.
