Volunteers give Sitwell Street area a new look

Volunteers from community groups around Spondon recently teamed up and transformed the area between the former Derbyshire Building Society and the Village Hall in Spondon's centre.

With funding from the Neighbourhood Board, members of the Community Association, Council Parks Officers and the Village Improvement Committee have set the area with a variety of easily maintained perenial border plants.

Neighbourhood Manager, Richard Smail, said of the project: "This is an excellent example of a Spondon volunteer working party coming together planting up the plants funded by Spondon Neighbourhood Board to improve this very visible and important piece of community space in the village.

"It's quite a transformation from what it looked like a year ago before the project began with Celanese helping to clear the space."

Together, we can make a difference and help achieve the aim of improving public open spaces to enhance the village and a make our community an even more attractive and vibrant place.
