Neighbourhood Board funding for local Spondon projects

Every year Spondon Neighbourhood Board agrees projects that are funded from a budget provided by Derby City Council from the Streetpride service.

This year £17,333 has been allocated to deliver projects that aim to help tackle some of the Boards priorities in Spondon including:

  • Improve highways and transport
  • Improve the environment
  • Being safe and feeling safe

This year the projects include:

Slurry sealing the footways on Burnside Drive.

In recent years, the Board has made it a priority to improve footways in the Sandringham Drive area and this year £5,000 has been allocated to improve Burnside Drive footways. The slurry seal process involves patching the footway and then coating the footway with a material known as slurry seal.  It forms a protective barrier on the footway to seal it from bad weather, reduces cracks and prevents deterioration so prolonging the life of the footway.

Speed Indicator Devices (SID) on four roads in Spondon.

In response to requests from residents, the Board has funded £1,100 to allow the SID to be located on four roads in Spondon during 2015/16 aiming to reduce speeds and make Spondon roads safer for all. The SID will be found on Moor Street, Locko Road, Sandringham Drive and Church Street this year.

Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) and additional dropped kerbs on Arundel Drive.

From September 2015 there will be a TRO in place outside all of Spondon’s schools. The TRO will mean that anyone who parks on the zig zag lines outside the schools at the designated times will be liable for a fine, as on the lines on Chapel Street as shown in the photo.

A TRO was introduced outside Asterdale Primary school last year and  the Board has funded over £6,000 to extend the TRO to the other schools this year. To support the delivery of the TRO at Borrow Wood School, two extra dropped kerbs are being installed with Board funding to provide easier crossing points in front of the school gates.
