The year’s Spondon Social Safari takes place on the weekend of 20th & 21st July and will be the biggest yet, with more residents than ever taking part as a ‘stop’ on the Safari route.
The annual event is organised by Spondon Community Association and sees locals opening their gardens and driveways and inviting the community in.
Those who have travelled the Safari route in previous years speak warmly of the Community spirit and the warm welcome offered along the route.
This year’s Safari route features a varied selection of interests including with Bric-a-brac stalls, Cream Teas, Craft Display, Card making, Children’s alphabet puzzles and jewellery sales. You can also enjoy a concert of Latin American and Folk music, try your hand at Crown Green Bowling, Amateur radio transmitting, meet the scarecrows or simply enjoy a cuppa in good company.
The event builds on the already good Community spirit we enjoy in Spondon and also raises funds for charity. We are very honoured this year to have the Mayor of Derby open the weekend by officially opening the new Andrew Frost Tree Sculpture, 10am on Saturday in Chapel Street’s Sensory Garden.
This is an open invitation for all to partake over the weekend. It’s a social occasion so join in the Community spirit of the event and get out there Safari hunting. Safari ‘stops’ will be located by looking out for the posters and balloons.
