Village gets its own currency for Spondon Day!

Spondon Day takes place on Saturday 22nd June and will feature a whole range of different activities, street entertainment, outdoor stalls and more around the village centre.

Spondon Day is about celebrating all that is great about Spondon shops and businesses. On the 22nd June, Spondon Village Centre will be a different place. Starting at around 11.00 am, you will hardly recognise it. It will almost have a continental feel, yet being definitely Spondon.

There will be shops and cafés having stalls on the pavement, street entertainment, street magic, a Spondon Village beer festival, Morris Dancing,  and open air music throughout the village centre.

There will be an exhibition of classic vehicles in the Liberal Club car park, which is something not to be missed. Woody's Owls and Parrots will be with us beside the Village Hall, where you will also find a Punch and Judy performance, picnic area, and we also expect a bouncy castle and kids rides.

Also outside the Village Hall, there will be the "Spondon Bazaar", where you will be able to get the latest Archive books, Historical Society publications, Spondon bags, mugs and flags! Also on sale, for the first time will be the new "Sounds on Spondon CD" - a compilation of local artists including some songs specially written for the album".

The day's free entertainment will come to a rousing finish with Hothouse Jazz on the precinct. But that won't be the end of the day - remember the village centre pubs and clubs will have the joint beer festival.

It's going to be a very special day, a day to remember, so make a note in your Diary, and we'll see you there.

Get our $pondon$ Bucks for great discounts!

As part of Spondon Day, the village is to get its very own currency - for one day only!

On the day, your money will go even further as, for that day only, Spondon will have its own currency - the $pondon$ Buck.

Obtainable only from the Bank of Spondon (another one-day only phenomenon, you may know it at other times as Mark Davis Optician), you can exchange 90p sterling and receive in exchange 1 $pondon$ Buck. You will also get a leaflet which will list which local traders will take your $pondon$ Buck and sell you £1-worth of goods - so you will get an automatic 10% discount. And some traders may offer an additional discount on top.

It's going to be a great day to shop in Spondon! Of course, with a deal like that, there is some "small print", but it'll all be clear and easy on the day.

Part of Discover Spondon Week

The Spodon Day event is part of the Discover Spondon Week which features a range of other local events celebrating Spondon and the surrounding area. There is so much going on during the week, including a Treasure Hunt around the village on Saturday 29th June.
